1.) Make Money Online: The more you tell, the more you sell: So, a blank space sells nothing, and the more good copy you have, the better.

2.) Specificity of numbers: $331.27 is more believable than $300.00 and prices that end in 7s, 9s and 5s are the best.

3.) Colour: colour type is harder to read than black type, so be careful not to overuse it.

4.) Fonts: the easiest and most successful fonts to have on your sales letter/website are Arial and Verdana.

5.) Summarise: if you have a long sales letter, you should summarise your offer at the end of the letter.

6.) Numbers: Numerical numbers (21), rather than written out numbers, are easier to read and the prospect will move along faster through the copy.

7.) Make Money Online: The best people to write to are people who you already understand, ie: you are one of them. If you have a passion or a real interest, then this something to start with.

8.) You can get a very good response to mediocre copy if you make sure you are sending this to a highly targeted list.

9.) The headline is the most important aspect of your sales letter/website. You have on average 10 seconds to grab the attention of a male reader, and only 5 seconds to get the attention of a female reader! Your Headline is 80% of the battle.

10.) Your headline needs to answer: So what? Who cares? What's in it for ME? Why are you bothering ME?

11.) The second most read part of the sales letter is the "P.S". so don't neglect this important component on the end of your web site.

12.) Headline Test': Will it make the reader read the next sentence? Will it stand alone? If you ran the headline and just a phone number in an ad, would you get a response?

Writing Effective Ads and the Power of Split-Testing

Important! What you read here are my opinions based on my experience and the experience of my Joint Venture partners. These are the techniques that have worked for us. Make Money Online

Have you heard about Google Adwords? In my opinion this is the most amazing
development on the internet for years. It allows marketers to approach a new
project and test sales copy in a very different way.

Firstly, for the beginner (not receiving any regular traffic to their website) Google
Adwords can be used to buy very targeted and hungry traffic to a website. This is
achieved by bidding on keywords that are relevant to the product or service being
offered.

Secondly, it's what this traffic tells us about our product, offer and sales copy that's
of most value. For example, if we are bidding 0.10 for each click and a sale is worth
100 to us, then we can afford 1000 clicks before a sale is achieved. If the product
is being sold for 10 then we have a break-even point of 100 clicks for every sale.

Also of importance here is what's referred to as 'visitor value' and this is a simple
calculation that is done to determine how much our top bids should be. I will
illustrate this using another example.

Your product is worth 15. If after testing for your first week you discover that you
get 5 sales for every 100 clicks (a good conversion rate of 5%), and the 100 clicks
costs you 50, then your visitor value = (5x15/100) 7.5.

If each click is costing you 5, then for every 5 you spend you get back 7.5. How
many 5's would you spend knowing this information?

Equally, this will tell us if our ad campaign is not performing, but I hope you
understand the importance of these simple metrics...

I use Adwords to test my new sites before I release a new site to the search
engines, to my affiliates and before I really ramp up the advertising. Like I said,
once you know that your ad and sales letter is performing, how many 5's would
you invest?

OK, let's take a look at how you can write more effective ads.

We can improve our ad in a number of ways, but rather than just changing our
ad, let's do something more intelligent. Let's test our new ad against one that
we're currently running.

Click on 'Create New Text Ad'. This should bring up a copy of our current ad.
It's important that we only modify one factor at a time so we can attribute any
improvement to that factor that has been changed rather than guessing.

The ads will be rotated, so that you'll soon know which is the better ad - clever
stuff I know!

You can quickly create two similar ads promoting the same affiliate scheme or
product.

Important! Capitalise all words except the little words. Your ad will get clicked on
more often with capitalised words. We think this is because they stand out more,
but this isn't important. What's important is the FACT.

When you look at these ads in a few days or weeks you will likely see that one ad
will have a higher click-thru rate (CTR). CTR is a percentage of how many times
your ads is clicked versus how many times it is shown.

Google rewards you for having a high CTR. Your ad position on the page is
determined by multiplying your CTR by your bid price. Once each ad has 50 or
more clicks, delete the less effective ad and create another ad to test against it.
This is referred to as split-testing and I recommend only split testing two ads
against each other at a time.

Repeat this process for each of your ads that you've created. Test, test, test.

If you don't do this you'll be losing out on potential clicks and potential sales, which
means that you'll have to wait longer to reach your financial goals.

Now that you know how to find great products, advertise them so that you know
how much money you're making and whether your ads and sales letters are
working or not, you have yourself a 95% automated online business.

Important! You will need to monitor your keywords and your ads every other day
(and I've done this from all over the world) and also place a daily budget on each
campaign. I've heard some horror stories, so if your budget is only £10 a day (as
an initial test) make sure you tell google by filling in the correct field...

This is the most cost-effective traffic generating advterising I've ever experienced,
but you will need to be careful if you haven't used this before. Make sure you have
a good sales letter to test conversion, ensure you have stipulated a daily budget
and make sure you monitor your campaigns.

Make Money Online - steps to success

In order to make REAL money online, your chosen topic needs to excite you. I speak to a lot of people where the motivation is simply to "make money". This is NOT enough in my opinion. You need clear goals, desires, passions and interests as you'll be expected to write a little of the content yourself... at least to start with!

If you have no interests at all, and despise the thought of actually e-mailing people, customer service and dealing with refunds (yes they do happen - there are a lot of freebie seekers out there!)... then affiliate programs are where you need to focus your attention. All you need to do is get traffic to the affiliate website and bingo! Your job is done - let the pros do the selling for you.

So, here's my formula for success:

Step 1: Choose an interest or a passion and GET EXCITED! If you can't, then move onto step 4.

Step 2: Decide, choose, find or re-brand a product that you would like to sell.

Step 3: Create website and sales copy for this product

Step 4: Start your SEO work or using Google Adwords (or even offline methods) to promote your website or affiliate link.

Step 5: You will need to test your ads, your sales copy and even chop and change your affiliate programs as and when... I'd hate you to leave money on the table!!

Step 6: Build a list if using your own website - this is what people refer to as money on demand. Need cash? Send out an e-mail endorsing a product that you know is good... I have 8 such e-mails lined up and ready to fly as I write this!!

Making Money Online - how it all started

I'd used the Internet on occasions, mainly for research and finding cheap holidays, but it wasn't until this day that I really saw and appreciated the power of the Internet. A little corny I know, but it's true...

So, how did my little "test" go?

Well, I started with the simplest of "Income Streams", as recommended, and I started to follow the plan...

I launched my first "test" within a few days... and as I'd been told would happen, I had my very first "customer" within a few hours... Now, I didn't speak to this customer or even meet this customer, but they paid me (directly into my bank account) for a "product" that I was selling online.

A product, by the way, that had been sourced for me... to get me started. I was just following one simple idea to the letter... in which he explained:

As promised, I’m sending you an update regarding my thoughts and discoveries as a result of the three day Online Business Entrepreneur conference that I attended last week.

Some of the information that I was given was just amazing... So amazing in fact, I spent all of yesterday looking for an Online Business expert in a certain field to start a Joint Venture with! The technical genius that I found is driving targeted traffic to all his clients’ websites at a phenomenal rate... and together we’re going to make lots of money online!

I can’t tell you too much about this particular online business income stream just yet, but imagine setting up something once, walking away from it and getting a cheque in the post every month for your initial efforts. That’s all you need to do, set it up... and bank a cheque every month... There’s no product involved, no customer service, and no work to do after you’ve set it up...

As you can imagine, that held my attention for sometime!

Moving on...

If you want to get started in any business, I would recommend this business... The Internet Business and an Online Business...

Why?

Because you only have to do each and every task ONCE... Then automate it using the Internet or your own computer... And this can be based at your own home – a home-based online business that can be as much as 100% automated!

Also...

I spoke to one man who wants to redevelop his basement into an office for himself and his home-based online business. I thought this was fantastic – he’d had the plans drawn up and could picture the finished project - the goal if you like.

Another person I spoke to wanted to provide her children with a better future. Again, fantastic, she sees her children every day... and can picture the goal.

These are the reasons that you should be setting up a home-based Online Business.

An online business is not about the money – making money online merely allows us to do the things that we want to do. Your online business is all about improving your life, realising your dreams and achieving your goals...

I know this much; if you do nothing, don’t expect anything to change...

If you answered yes to the above question, then you really need to take a look at the below statistics - the numbers amazed even me!

There was an important news story recently, that never made the 6 o'clock News or the front pages - but it has fundamental implications for the future of online business.

Hidden away was the news that spending on Internet advertising is going to exceed 10 Billion Dollars this year, for the first time ever. The actual figure for the year is over $13 billion, and roughly translated into real money that’s £7.5 Billion.

Why is this important and what’s this got to do with your home-based online business?

Let me put this in perspective. In 1999, at the height of the dot com boom, spending on internet advertising reached $4.2 Billion - so we're now at three times the spending of the dot com boom! This is dramatic news. We'll look back on these years and realise we’re living through the real internet revolution, right now!

The possibilities this offers your online business are tremendous. The downside is that many people are going to get left behind, because they realised too late... that in 2005 and early 2006... it's absolutely essential that your business is also an Online Internet Business.

Internet sales are increasing as a result of this advertising as well, which wasn’t necessarily the case with the dot com boom!

To give you an example of why this is the case, rather than fight my way into town by car or sit on a congested train yesterday... I sat back, made myself a cup of tea and did a little online shopping. I actually found some great deals online, and when delivery is free, you can often buy more than you’d otherwise buy!

But here’s where it gets interesting... This week, I’ve also bought (online) a spare part for a car (needed urgently by a family member and delivered the next day), a dressing gown (present), some envelopes, a new door bell, two new detail sanders (for the guys currently working on my house), some software, and a new road map for the car.

Now, I could easily have popped into town and collected all these presents, parts or items, but the point is that I didn't. And, if the companies I bought from didn’t have an Online Business, they simply wouldn’t have received that sale from me.

On the face of it, one sale may not seem very important, but if you look at today’s society - where no-one has the time to stop in the street and complete a survey (yes I’m guilty of that too), no-one has the time for lunch, and everything must be 'quick', 'now' and 'instant'... you simply have to offer a painless, quick and instant Online Business service if you want to survive.

Problem: People have no time to shop. Solution: Offer a way in which people can buy from you 24 hours a day, and from the comfort of their own home.

Once you have an online business idea, you must then promote your product and service in order to obtain a reaction. And this is because products and services are bought on emotion...

Look at the cars being driven today if you don't believe me!

There are plenty of good cars that can be bought for a very modest price, so why do people insist on paying lots more for a newer “more sporty” version?

It's because of status and “what the neighbors’ will think”!

Also...

You're not going to sell your online business product to everyone, so why not prompt a positive reaction to those that you think will buy your online business product or service by saying something like:

'Quite frankly, the American Express Card isn't for everyone'

(This was an extremely successful ad run in the US).

Now this makes people desire the card, because they don't want to think that they wouldn't be able to obtain one for any reason, but also the ad is focused and targeted towards those that would WANT such a card in the first place - as a status symbol...

So, in short, start thinking about who your online business customers and clients are going to be – then all you need to do is prompt a reaction to bring those people on board...

You see, a lot of businesses, or large businesses in particular, are extremely complacent - they are full of employees looking to do the bare minimum or just meet their targets.

So, if you can offer the same service, but better, then there's business to be had and maintained... for you… And if you automate this with your online business, then you’ll be able to dedicate more time to and ON your internet marketing business and less time actually working IN your business. Plus, and here's the important part, once you have a customer, you must do everything possible to keep them. Again, a lot of big businesses do not do this - they advertise again and again to promote new business, but do very little to retain their existing customers...

Whereas you, knowing the true value of retaining customers, will retain your customers (resulting in less advertising expenses and more repeat sales) with your personal and much improved service. And you do this by automating your prospect, customer and order data capture within your online business, so that, at the touch of a button, you can contact all prospects or customers in the future – with your latest offer!

But first, you need a product or a service for your new online business - before you start to make money online. And don’t worry; there are plenty of ideas and businesses out there to suit your interests and passions.

Now I'm not saying that you should 'steal' existing business ideas or products, but it's perfectly reasonable to 'borrow' ideas and modify them to your USP.

Key point: It’s important that your online business interests you, as you’ll be much more likely to enjoy what you do if this is so.

The proof of the pudding... is in the e-mail

I received a couple of intriguing e-mails this week, which is why the update is a little earlier than usual - it pretty much wrote itself this week...

The first e-mail made me extremely curious simply because of its length - it was extremely short, but offered to 'make you one million pounds in only two months'.

Now, as you can imagine, I receive quite a few of these communications each and every week and I usually like a little more detail before I say either 'send me some more info' or 'no thanks, this isn’t something that I'll be offering to my members'.

But, because this was so short... I was prompted into a reply. I don’t know if this was deliberate or whether it was just lazy on the part of sender. Anyway, it worked... and I replied.

The next message amazed me, it simply said... again... 'I can make you one million pounds in 2 months, we have to meet'.

Well, by now I was extremely suspicious, and I haven't yet received a response to my e-mail which simply read 'Have you made this money yourself?'

Which brings me onto the point of proof...

Although I find some amazing ideas, if I can't make them work for myself... or in the time that people claim that it's possible, then I simply can’t go out to my members and say 'this works'.

Proof is an incredibly powerful marketing tool that simply must be included in order to succeed...

For example, I'm working with someone at the moment that has an amazing health product, and I've suggested to her that the headline of the website should be immediately followed by a testimonial, such as 'I was suffering with x, until I found y'.

Incredibly powerful, yet so simple.

I’m also working with someone that's in the process of setting up their own Private detective website. Again, we are using proof at the entry point of the website.

Moving on...

The second e-mail that I'd like to talk about was someone questioning whether they could do this for themselves...

The e-mail was a series of questions that, to me, read like excuses... One of which was 'I don’t believe that I have the entrepreneurial skills required to do this, what do I need?'

I thought about this long and hard, as I didn't want to give a standard text-book response... I answered all of the initial questions with examples of people that I've worked with, or my own personal experience...

Then, I wrote the following:

An entrepreneur is someone that is prepared to invest £5 to make £20, knowing that worst-case he/she will get the £5 back...

Now, to explain this... I went on to say that if you hadn’t researched a particular market, or a product price, you’d be guessing - rather like the average gambler on horses on a Saturday.

However, if you knew all there was to know, and you’d run some tests of your own, you’d be pretty sure that your small investment was going to return you a profit.

And to continue with the analogy of a gambler, this time you'd be a professional gambler - that has spent all morning going through the form guide...

So, this week my online business tips are proof and preparation.

However, I recently realised that some of you may not have read my “best” weekly bulletins (being modest as always), so over the next few weeks I’ll be publishing the very best online home-based business messages and tips to make money online.

This week, I'm going to provide you with some excellent online business tips that will help any business, and also I’ll tell you a story about an e-mail that I received this week.

Firstly, on New Year's Eve I met a friend of a friend... We were allowed by our respective partners to talk business for an hour over dinner! In all seriousness, we'd spoken before, but this was the first time that we'd met in person so we had our excuses...

Anyway, he has a similar background to myself - he's a normal person just like you and me... But, he decided one day that the office and a 9-5 job just wasn't what he wanted to do for the rest of his working life. The result of this decision was that he refinanced his house and set-up his very own landscape gardening business in his local area.

He told me that one day it just hit him - out of the blue. He realised that he only had one shot at this life and he hated what he was doing at the time... and he wanted to make more money… And I could certainly relate to that!

His business has been going for over one year now, but he did confess that 2006 was going to be a make or break year for him in terms of purely finance... And as we talked more it became obvious to me that for the immediate future he needed to target very specific 'contracts' that would bring his business a residual income for the entire year or perhaps longer.

In the past, he'd been dropping a simple leaflet through doors, or letters to the bigger clients - and we talked about what the leaflets and letters contained. They were good in content, but I suggested that he needed to stand out from his competition by offering something in addition to the service that everyone was offering. i.e to maintain your garden for £x every month.

So, with my marketing hat firmly on and in place, I suggested that he offer something free - as an additional bonus for winning the contract. Something that would encourage the potential client to become a paying client...

I told him that he needed to focus on his customer - what do they want from a landscape gardener? What are they really looking for? It's not primarily cost, but something to make you stand out from the competition.

He told me that potential clients were often unsure as to the quality of the job or whether gardeners could be trusted. Well, this was it... this was the 'clincher' that I was looking for...

He's since added a few testimonial quotes to his sales letter and is now offering a 'first month free' service to all maintenance contracts signed in January. Of course, he's adjusted the price to accommodate this free month, but the importance is winning the contract in the first place... And I understand from speaking to him this week that he's already arranged two meetings with potential clients for next week.

You see, marketing and sales is all about knowing what your market wants. If you can offer them what they want at a reasonable price and make yourself stand out from the competition, then you'll be successful. To target your market, you can then use leaflets, direct mail, internet marketing, e-mail marketing or even a telephone call.

My tip for this week is, therefore, to get inside the head of your customer and then ask yourself (as the customer) “what do I really want?” Once you master this, the rest will be simple.

Moving on...

I received an e-mail that upset me this week - it was from someone that isn't a customer of mine questioning how to set-up an online business. I always try to help everyone that I come into contact with, so I responded to a series of questions from this person in an attempt to help them get started... The response to my final e-mail amazed me!

It read something along the lines of “it's alright for you - you do this for a living”...

Well, what do you say to that?!

Believe it or not, I wasn't born with my home-based online business in a box - ready to open and start making money whenever I felt like it. There was a time when I knew nothing about the internet, nothing about marketing techniques and even general business knowledge let alone an online business!

So to say something so defeatest just amazed me. To me, it's like saying that becoming a self-made millionaire just isn't possible...

Sure, people have done it, but that doesn't mean that I can do it?!!

So much of where you are and what you do is in your mind, which is why I want to make the following statement regarding the rich and successful amongst us:

Everyone has the right to become wealthy and experience financial freedom. Those that do… believe that “it's ok to make and have money...”

And if you think about this statement for just a moment and consider all the negativity associated with having or making money, then it becomes very clear as to what this means.

At a young age, we're taught that “money is the root of all evil” and “money can't buy you love/friends”. We also see our parents using credit and spending everything they have, so we copy them...

My parents retired BEFORE they'd paid off their mortgage, so not only did I have absolutely no advantages than the 'normal' person... I saw that working all your life was NOT the way to go.

If you take only this from this online business message, it should be that any business can be improved with the correct and most cost-effective marketing. And in order to succeed you need to start thinking like the rich - it's ok to make money... and lots of money at that.
